Envelope size checker
Postage depends on dimensions as much as weight. Enter your envelope's measurements and find out which category Canada Post puts it in — standard, oversize, or not a letter at all.
The official limits
| Category | Maximum size | Max weight | Starts at (Canada) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 245 × 156 × 5 mm | 50 g | $1.24 |
| Oversize (non-standard) | 380 × 270 × 20 mm | 500 g | $2.61 |
| Minimum (any letter) | 140 × 90 mm | — | — |
Measure thickness at the thickest point — a clasp, a coin, a gift-card corner — not at the empty edge of the envelope. Contents that shift can also change the answer in the sorting plant, so leave a little margin when you're close to 5 mm. If your item lands oversize, the oversize lettermail guide has the full rate table sellers use; if it lands as a parcel, letter rates simply don't apply and a parcel quote is the honest next step.
