Using stamps you already have
You don't need the official USA stamp. Any stamps totalling $1.75 or more work — for example, a Permanent™ stamp ($1.24) plus a 50¢ stamp and a 1¢ stamp, or two Permanent™ stamps if you don't mind overpaying. The calculator's combination finder works out the mix with the least overpay from the stamps in your drawer.
One caution: a single Permanent™ stamp is not enough for the USA. It counts as $1.24, not as "one letter to anywhere," and underpaid mail can be returned or delivered postage-due.

My envelope is thick or rigid — is it still a letter?If it exceeds 380 × 270 × 20 mm or 500 g, or contains rigid/non-paper items, Canada Post may treat it as a parcel at parcel prices. Thin, flexible contents keep you in letter rates.
